Overview

Dr. Thiess received his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. His research focuses on issues of embodiment in speculative genres, especially in science fiction and horror, and appears in several articles in venues such as Science Fiction Studies, Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts, and ISLE. He is also the author of three books, most recently Sport and Monstrosity in Science Fiction (Liverpool UP 2019). He enjoys introducing students to the fantastic in literature and film, in both composition courses and those such as Multicultural American Literature. He lives in Oconee with his wife and dog, and can be found occasionally training at judo and jujutsu.
