Visual Arts Scholarships & Awards

The Department of Visual Arts offers merit-based scholarships for studio art, art marketing, and art education majors. The awards are based on academic excellence and artistic achievement and the student's involvement in the visual arts, the University of North Georgia (正澳门六合彩开奖结果), and the community.

The scholarship candidate must be enrolled in one of the visual art programs:

  • Visual Arts (B.F.A.)
  • Art Education (B.S.)
  • Art Marketing (B.S.)
  • Studio Art (B.A.)
  • Art Major with Graphic Design Concentration (B.A.)
  • Art Major with Digital Arts Concentration (B.A.)
  • Art Pathway

To be eligible, students must have a minimum of 12 credit hours and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Note: One application is needed to be considered for any of our scholarships, and all scholarship awards are subject to final approval by the Office of Financial Aid. In addition, the scholarship candidate must be a legally documented student and be enrolled part-time or full-time at the time of application.

How to Apply

The scholarships are awarded based on students' artistic achievement, so please follow the instructions carefully. The Submission Deadline is February 14 by 11:59 p.m.

  1. To be considered for our Art scholarships, you must fill out this . 
  2. Create a Scholarships page in Digication
    • In your e-portfolio, under the HOME, create a new page labeled 'Scholarships' followed by the academic year – for example: 'Scholarships 2024–2025'.
    • In this newly created page, upload 5 representative pieces of your classwork. Each image should include a caption with the following information: 
      • Descriptive title – e.g., "Self Portrait exercise" 
      • Material used – e.g. “Conté crayon on paper”
      • Dimensions in inches – Height x Width (for 2-D works) or Height x Width x Depth (for 3-D works)
      • Semester the work was created – e.g., "Spring 2023."
      • Class for which the work was created – e.g., "ART 1010 Drawing I"
    • Upload a document (up to 400 words) describing your financial need for art materials, educational opportunities, expenses related to attending workshops, conferences, etc. This document will be used to consider your eligibility for the need-based Tommye McClure Scanlin Scholarship.
    • Very Important: Set your newly created scholarships page on Digication to “Public.” This will allow the Scholarship Review committee to view your submission.

Bob Owens Art Scholarship
  • Recipients must be in their junior or senior year at 正澳门六合彩开奖结果;
  • Must have a GPA of 3.5 overall
  • Must be a declared 正澳门六合彩开奖结果 Visual Art Major
  • Must be a full-time student on the 正澳门六合彩开奖结果 Dahlonega campus
  • Must be involved in visual art related activities within the 正澳门六合彩开奖结果 department of Visual Arts
  • Recipients must include 7 works of art in digital format
  • Must demonstrate a leadership role within the 正澳门六合彩开奖结果 Department of Visual Arts.
Chris Gore Art Scholarship
  • The recipient(s) must be a continuing student pursuing a degree in Visual Arts (including Visual Arts Education) and be enrolled on the Dahlonega campus
  • The student must be in good academic standing with the University
  • The student must have demonstrated financial need as determined by Financial Aid
  • The student must demonstrate a high level of commitment and skill to his/her art, as determined by the Visual Arts Scholarship selection committee
  • Primary preference will be given to students who graduated from (a) Dawson County High School; secondary preference will be given to students who graduated from (a) Lumpkin County High School or another High School in the North Georgia area
  • The income of the fund will award at least one student pursuing a degree in Visual Arts on the Dahlonega campus for tuition and fees. The award will be divided equally between semesters the student(s) plan to attend. If additional funds remain, one or more Visual Arts students may be awarded, as determined by the Department Head and Visual Arts Scholarship Selection Committee
  • The award(s) will be announced each year at the department awards ceremony or as according to the policies of the Visual Arts department.
The Forsyth County Arts Alliance Scholarship
  • The recipient be a resident of Forsyth County
  • The recipient be a graduate of a Forsyth County high school
  • The recipient be a major in Art Education or Music Education with academic standing as a junior or senior
  • The recipient must have a cumulative GP A of at least 3 .2.
Gloria Shott Fine Arts Scholarships
  • Recipient must have exceptionally high academic potential and superior talent in the fine arts
  • Renewable annually based on continued superior academic achievement and performance in the fine arts
  • Scholarship recipient(s) will be recommended by the departments of fine arts, which includes both the Performing Art Department and Visual Art Department; and provided that sufficient earnings are available, no less than 6% of the three-year rolling average of the total fund balance shall be allocated annually for spending. It is the Executor's intent to provide as many scholarships as possible, while preserving the corpus of the scholarship. The allocation will be split between Performing Arts and Visual Arts Department.
Roy C. Moore scholarships Entering or enrolled student attending any campus from Hall County. Should exhibit high academic potential and superior talent in the Fine Arts.
Tommye McClure Scanlin Scholarship
  • Are need based-in the selection process, the Department of Visual Arts scholarship committee will give consideration of need without being limited to the federal definition of financial need. Financial need for purposes of this scholarship should consider the additional costs associated with visual arts programs
  • Show artistic/creative merit-in the selection process, the scholarship committee will give consideration of artistic/creative merit based on the Department of Visual Arts' standards for artistic quality or value
  • Is a new and/or continuing student or students pursuing Visual Art as a major on any campus at the University of North Georgia. Prior awardees are also eligible for consideration each year.
Visual Arts Scholarship Any Enrolled student with high academic potential and superior talent in the fine arts. Can be on any of the campuses.

Visual Arts Awards Visual Arts offers two merit-based awards to art students each spring semester.

Hal B. Rhodes III Juried Student Exhibition and Awards Ceremony A guest juror awards prizes to the top five exhibited student artworks. Honors, given by the members of the university and surrounding communities, highlight artistic achievement demonstrated in the displayed works. Finally, various scholarships and merit-based awards are presented during the awards ceremony.
