Criteria

The winning piece will be a unique expression of music art through sound; it will be non-derivative (no arrangements). The work will be an example of innovation, that encourages us to see things from different perspectives. All applicants need to be currently enrolled in a music department course.

Submission Process

All submitted materials (excepting the application) will be submitted blindly. Any indication of composer on the submission materials (excepting the application) will result in disqualification. The application PDF and MP3 audio will be submitted by email to david.peoples@ung.edu.

Submission Materials

1. Application (PDF)
2. One notated score for voice(s) or instrument(s) (or a combination of forces) with no indication of composer’s name (only score title) in PDF format.
3. Proof of permission/public domain for any lyrics not of the composers creation
4. Audio rendition, either live recording (MP3) or MIDI realization.
   • Sonic Art Pieces, such as electroacoustic or acousmatic (with no score) will also be considered
5. 250 word explanation of how the work employs innovation and creativity (do not include name, only score title)

Submissions will not be returned. Judging panel may choose to not award if no entries qualify for the requisites of this call. Panel may also choose to award honorable mentions and/or award multiple winners (split prize).

All works will be judged by a Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û faculty panel using a 75-point rubric: 

• innovative approach and description (10pts)
• creative use of sonic events (20pts)
• quality of ideas/materials (20pts)
• uniqueness (25pts)
