Overview
Dr. Jovana Damnjanović, leads a versatile career as a soloist, chamber musician, and educator. As a soloist, Dr. Damnjanović was the winner of more than 20 awards and honors, some of which are the first prize at the Midsouth Young Artist Competition, Flutissimo Young Artist Competition, the Raleigh Area Flute Association Young Artist competition, the Brumby Concerto Competition, and a prize winner of the San Diego Flute Guild. Dr. Damnjanović has performed as a soloist and with various chamber ensembles all over Serbia, the USA, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy.
A native of Serbia, Dr. Damnjanović graduated in Flute Performance at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad with Honors in Music Arts and received two master’s degree from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad and Georgia State University. In 2014, Dr. Damnjanović was a scholar at the Universität für Musik and darstellende Kunst International Summer Academy in Vienna which allowed her to study with Kersten McKall and Felix Renggli. Dr. Damnjanović earned her DMA degree at the University of Georgia under tutelage of Professor Angela Jones-Reus. She received additional training by actively attending masterclasses all over Europe with some of the most distinguished flutists such as Emmanuel Pahud, Michael Hasel, Patrice Bocquillon, Dejan Gavrić, Norbert Girlinger, and Lior Eitan.
When in Serbia, Dr. Damnjanović collaborates with the pianist Dunja Crnjanski. This duo held numerous notable performances and recitals at the Serbian Academy of Science and Arts, A Fest, and Schumann Fest. An active chamber musician, Jovana was a member of the Southern Winds Quintet with whom she performed for the Berliner Philharmoniker Wind Quintet, she is a member of the prize winning flute and piano duo with a Brazilian pianist Daniel Padovan, she performed premiers of new music for flute and euphonium with duo Novi with Michael Fahrner, sheperformed and held presentations all over the USA with International Counterpoint woodwind trio and was a fellow at the Cortona Sessions for New Music in Cortona, Italy.
Dr. Damnjanović has recently written a book of ten concert etudes for flute titled MAYKA that will be available through Presser in Spring 2023.
