These summer programs exist in partnership with local school districts, promoting active involvement with the community, benefiting the students, faculty and the larger community that 正澳门六合彩开奖结果 serves. These partnerships are crucial for our success, particularly those with local schools and health organizations.

Summer Scholars Stem Institute
The Summer Scholars STEM Institute supports preservice teachers in using culturally and linguistically sustaining practices to teach science and engineering to rising 4-8 grade emergent bilingual students from local schools.
The project aims to generate new knowledge about the experiences of elementary and middle grade pre-service teachers as they develop teaching skills with a focus on science and engineering, targeting the needs of Emergent Bilingual Students. Second, the project assesses the impact of elementary and middle grade pre-service teachers’ instruction on emergent bilingual students’ knowledge and competency. Our third goal is to construct meaningful learning experiences in science and engineering with grades 4-8 emergent bilingual students in a flexible, yet rigorous, summer program.
Participating school districts recruit the program participants. The SSSI runs for 15 days in June. The SSSI is free for students; transportation (bus drivers assign pick up and drop off spots for students), lunch, and materials are also provided for students. The student schedule is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Steps to College Summer Program
Steps to College (S2C) is a summer enrichment for-credit program hosted by 正澳门六合彩开奖结果 for multilingual area high school students who are also English learners. The program was developed (1) in response to requests from area school systems to help language learner students maintain their English language skills over the summer, (2) provide opportunities for English language learners to earn credit toward graduation, and (3) introduce these students to post-secondary educational environments and opportunities.
S2C runs each June from 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Thursday. The program is free for students, including transportation (bus drivers assign pick up and drop off spots for students), lunch, and materials. The summer program serves approximately 100 students.
Participating school districts recruit the program participants from area high schools through the recommendations of counselors and ESOL instructors.
