North Georgia Suites

Information

North Georgia Suites is located on Sunset Drive, on the west part of campus next to the Health and Natural Sciences building. In addition, the Walker Drive parking deck is conveniently located adjacent to the residence hall.

This building houses up to 598 freshmen and upperclassmen, divided between two buildings and connected by one central atrium.

Approximately 30 students live in a community on a hallway, with 88 students on each floor.

Suites are single gender, and most freshman hallways are single gender as well. However, upperclassman hallways and special interest halls are often coed by suite.

All rooms have XL Twin mattresses.

Newly Admitted Fall Students
New ��ϲʿ�� students may apply for a housing contract by completing the following steps:

Apply for admission at ��ϲʿ�� as a residential student or contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to request a change to residential status if the student originally applied to ��ϲʿ�� as a commuting student.

After acceptance to ��ϲʿ��, students must confirm their attendance through the

Housing contracts, room selection, and roommate selection are all available through the ��ϲʿ�� housing portal. Deadlines for housing are communicated through email.

Current ��ϲʿ�� Students
Current ��ϲʿ�� students may apply for a housing contract by completing the following steps:

Residence Life will notify current residents via e-mail before the housing contract process opens.

Please note that per ��ϲʿ��'s Residence Policy, students who are freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus. Students who believe that they have a unique hardship may request a waiver to the Residence Policy through the Dean of Students Office.

Please note that housing contracts are binding once completed. Students wishing to cancel a housing contract should consult the cancellation terms in their housing contract as termination fees will likely apply.

Moving In

Fall Semester

New student move-in for fall 2024 will occur by appointment only on August 8, 9, and 10. Please check your ��ϲʿ�� email the first week in July for the opportunity to sign up for a move-in appointment. Students must submit a photo for their ��ϲʿ�� Nighthawks Card prior to coming to campus

Move-in Information

Move-in will be by appointment only August 8, 9, and 10. ��ϲʿ�� classes begin on August 12, 2024. Please check your ��ϲʿ�� email the first week in July for the opportunity to sign up for a move-in appointment. Only two cars are permitted per student, and only two guests will be permitted for each student.

��ϲʿ�� Nighthawks ID Card

��ϲʿ�� students must bring their ��ϲʿ�� Nighthawks ID card with them to check into the residence halls. New students may pick up their ID card at orientation. Students not attending an in-person orientation may submit their Nighthawks ID photo online at least 3 days prior to their move-in and pick up their card at move-in.

Changed Your Mind About Attending ��ϲʿ��?

Students who completed a housing contract with Residence Life and will not attend ��ϲʿ�� should e-mail residencelife@ung.edu and attach a completed cancellation form as soon as possible.

Spring Semester

New student move-in for spring 2025 will occur on Sunday, January 12 from noon - 2 p.m. Students must submit a photo for their ��ϲʿ�� Nighthawks Card prior to coming to campus.

Move-In Information

New residents moving into the residence halls for spring semester should receive an e-mail from Residence Life that contains important room and roommate information. This e-mail also includes the day/time for move-in and the building into which you will be checking. Please note that students should not arrive before the assigned move-in time, as they will not be allowed to move-in early.

��ϲʿ�� Nighthawks ID Card

Students must bring their ��ϲʿ�� Nighthawks ID card with them to check into the residence halls. Students will not have access to the dining hall without it.

Move-In Checklist

You must have your ��ϲʿ�� ID with you in order to check in. (See the semester sections above for further info.)
Have all of your boxes/belongings labeled with your name and room number.
If you have reserved a loft, it will be placed in your room prior to the move-in day.
Know which building, room, and time you have been assigned. Residents will check in at their assigned building and will not be allowed in before their assigned time.
Talk with your roommate about how you want your room to be set up (lofted, bunked, etc.). Also discuss who is bringing the larger items (i.e. refrigerator, tv, etc.) if you intend to share.

FAQs

Can I move into my room early/late?

The residence halls open at designated times for each semester. Residents are not allowed to move in early. Each student is expected to move in at their assigned time.

What items should I bring with me?

You should bring items that will make you feel most comfortable in your room. However, remember that you will be sharing this space with another person. Also, there are items not allowed in the ��ϲʿ�� Residence Halls. You may access What To Bring, a list of recommended items to bring, a list of items provided in the residence hall and room, and a list of items prohibited in the ��ϲʿ�� residence halls.

What happens if I do not like my roommate?

Most residents self-select their roommates through the ��ϲʿ�� Housing Portal. For students who do not self-select, the Residence Life Staff puts a lot of effort into assigning compatible roommates, and we ask you to make every effort to work out minor issues. However, in either case, there are several opportunities during the year for a student to find a new roommate and change rooms.

Can I stay on campus during the holidays or breaks?

��ϲʿ�� Suite-style housing (NG Suites, The Commons, non-cadet students in Patriot Hall) is open during university holidays and breaks. Academic year contracts for Suite-style housing end the Sunday following graduation each spring. Separate summer housing contracts are available for NG Suites for students who are taking summer classes.

Is it possible to get a single or private room?

Both double and limited single room options are available in North Georgia Suites and in The Commons. Single occupancy rooms for freshmen are often limited to students with disability accommodations.

Can I live off campus?

Full-time students who have not earned 60 semester hours and do not meet one of the exceptions to the Residence Policy must live on campus.

Students may live off-campus if they live with and commute daily from the permanent legal residence of parent(s) or grandparent(s) within 50 miles of the campus; are 21 years of age or older; or have completed 2 years of successful active military service.

Do I have to buy a meal plan?
Residents in the following halls are required to purchase a . Students are originally assigned an All Access Plan but may change to a 15 or 10 meal plan before or during drop-add.

Where can I do laundry and how much does it cost?

Laundry facilities are located in all Residence Halls for student convenience.

As of Spring 2024, the cost for a wash or dry is $1.75 per load. To purchase a wash or dry you will need to download the Speed Queen App and use Campus Cash to pay. Campus Cash through the Speed Queen App is the only form of payment that you can use, no other forms of payment are accepted.

Can freshmen have a car on campus?

All students are allowed to have a car on campus as long as it is registered with Parking Services. All fees are included in student fees.

Can I paint/wallpaper my room?

No. There are a number of different people that utilize the residence hall rooms throughout the years, so permanent decorative changes are not allowed, including nails in walls.

What types of internet access are provided in the residence halls?
Each residence hall room is wired for computer access to the campus network. It is the student’s responsibility to have the appropriate configurations on his/her computer.

There are two wireless networks in the residence halls, ��ϲʿ��-RESNet-Media and ��ϲʿ��-RESNet. ��ϲʿ��-RESNet is devoted to connecting laptops, phones, and tablets.

Do the residence halls have satellite or cable TV access?

��ϲʿ�� Residence Halls do not provide satellite or cable TV access, but students may want to bring their own streaming device (Roku, AppleTV, Chromecast, etc. to access television shows).

Do the residence halls have phone service?

Phone lines are not provided. All major cell carriers have service on campus.

How do I get mail?
You must have your key with you when you come to pick up your letter mail at the Central Post Office.

To assure delivery of mail and packages, always include full name and box number in your address.

Storage space in the Post Office is limited. Mail should be checked weekly. If not, the mail is subject to being returned to sender or forwarded. (Ex: newspapers, packages)

Things to know about picking up parcels:

You will receive an email from ��ϲʿ�� Postal Services for items that have a tracking number. Please read the email, as it will instruct you to show us the email (screenshots are okay) and your ID. You cannot pick up anyone else’s parcels unless special arrangements are made with Postal Services.

USPS Mail arrives in the morning, and during standard volume is processed by 11 a.m..

UPS, FedEx and DHL arrives on campus at the Logistics Warehouse before 2 p.m., and is transferred to the Post Office between 2:30 and 4 depending on volume.

If you have a tracking number from USPS, FedEx, DHL or UPS (not amazon) that says your item has been delivered and it has been more than 1 business day, but you still have not received an email from us, please bring your tracking number to the front window for us to assist you with tracking your item.

What are visitation policies in the residence halls?

Guests from outside the residence hall must be escorted at all times by their host. Guests from outside the residence hall, regardless of gender, must check in at the front desk.

Visitation hours for guests in Donovan Hall, Lewis Hall, Lewis Annex, North Georgia Suites, the non-cadet floor in Patriot Hall, and The Commons are 10 a.m. – midnight, Monday – Thursday, and 10 a.m. – 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Visitation hours for guests in Owen Hall are 10 a.m. - midnight, Monday - Thursday and weekend visitation hours are Friday at 10 a.m. - Sunday at midnight.
