Direct Equivalents

Courses taken at prior institution/s that have a direct match to courses offered at Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û. These courses would need to be equivalent in content (course material), length (credits earned), and the age of completion.

Elective Courses

Courses that are taken at a prior institution/s that do not have a direct match to a course we offer at Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û or a course that requires a syllabus review (i.e. upper-level courses). These courses are listed with an "X" following their course numbering.

Non-Transferable Courses

These courses are few, but do not fit within the other categories. Examples are: remedial/learning support courses that are reviewed as less than college level at Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û, some nursing-specific courses, occupational/certification type courses, and some religion courses.

Any undergraduate student who would like to request a re-evaluation of an elective transfer credit must submit the following items to transfer@ung.edu:

• Name
• Student ID Number
• Institution Information
• Course Syllabus

Please Note

• A re-evaluation request should only be submitted if a student is requesting that a transfer course equivalency be changed. A student or advisor wishing to substitute a transfer course for a degree program requirement should submit a Course Substitution Form via degreeworks@ung.edu.
• Departmental decisions on course equivalents are final. There is no appeal beyond the departmental level.

Credit-by-exam options are a great way to earn additional college level credit.

A total of 45 hours toward a bachelor’s degree program and 30 hours toward an associate degree program combined in all credit-by-exam credit may be awarded.
 
A student who has earned a grade other than a “W” in a course may not earn CLEP, DSST, or other exam credit for the same course. Learn more about credit-by-exam credit.

• Advanced Placement Program (AP)
• International Baccalaureate Program (IB)
• College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
• DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST)

Interested in Earning Modern Language Credits?

Students wishing to earn credit in a modern language may test with the Foreign Language Achievement Testing Service (FLATS) offered by Brigham Young University. Depending upon test scores, students may be awarded credit for a modern language at the 1001, 1002, & 2001 level/s.

All official international transcripts must have a course-by-course credential translation by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).

• The evaluation must be sent directly from the agency to Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û.
• International coursework is dependent upon Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û department approval.
• Students may be asked to provide additional documentation for review purposes, such as a syllabi, course calendar, etc.

Students who are currently serving or have served in a branch of the military may be eligible to receive college credit for their military courses or military occupations.

How to Review Currently Approved Transfer Course Equivalencies for Military Credit

A total of 45 hours toward a bachelor’s degree program and 30 hours toward an associate degree program combined in all credit-by-exam/other credit may be awarded.

Post-baccalaureate, degree-seeking students are those individuals who have previously earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution and are seeking a new degree at Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û.

Post-baccalaureate, degree-seeking students will have their transfer coursework posted as a block of hours from their previous institution/s. To help meet prerequisites, transfer courses at the 1000 & 2000 level may be individually placed on a student record.

All grades completed as a part of the degree will be listed as “CR”, (credit, no grade).

Any additional undergraduate coursework earned after the primary degree will be listed individually with the grade earned.

Post-baccalaureate, degree-seeking students that have met all CORE curriculum requirements in Areas A-E must still meet all course and program prerequisites.

Regents Reading & Writing

All students seeking a degree from a University System of Georgia institution must fulfill the Georgia Regents Reading and Writing Requirements.

If a student passes ENGL 1101 & 1102 with a grade of “C” or higher at a regionally accredited institution, the student will satisfy the requirements. 

Transfer students will update at the end of the first semester of enrollment.

U.S. & GA Legislative Requirements

Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û or USG Institution

• HIST 2111, HIST 2112, or POLS 1101 will satisfy all Legislative Requirements, with a passing grade.

Technical College System of Georgia

• HIST 2111 or HIST 2112 will satisfy US/GA History Requirements
• POLS 1101 will satisfy US/GA Constitutional Requirements

All Other Institutions* or Test Credits

• HIST 2111 or 2112 will satisfy US History, only
• POLS 1101 will satisfy US Constitution, only

*Beginning fall 2023, accepted students transferring from a private Georgia institution may meet Georgia legislative requirements for approved institutions/courses recommended by the University System of Georgia.
