Overview
Dr. Gordon E. McNeer is of Mexican-American descent. His mother was born in Mexico in the year of the Mexican Revolution. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in Spanish and his Ph.D. in Romance Languages from Princeton University. He has taught on the faculties of Princeton University, the University of Florida, the University of California at Berkeley, Georgia State University and Agnes Scott College. During his stay at North Georgia he has been Director of the International Institute in Madrid, Director of study abroad programs for North Georgia students in Spain from 1996 to 2008 and author of bilingual translations of the Cervantes Prize poet José Hierro. In 2012 he translated and edited an anthology of eleven Hispano-American poets: Poetry Facing Uncertainty in collaboration with the University Press of North Georgia and VISOR LIBROS. In 2013 he translated and edited Shelter from the Storm by Benjamín Prado for publication in the University Press of North Georgia. In 2013 he also translated and edited Eyes of the Pelican by Fernando Valverde (UPNG). At present, he is working on a bilingual edition of Words Spoken Softly by Daniel Rodríguez Moya. This spring, a book of his own poetry, Mira lo que has hecho, will be presented at the International Festival of Poetry in Granada, Spain. His area of specialization is the Spanish lyrical tradition, with a concentration in contemporary Spanish poetry.
