Work Experience
After working several years in the aerospace and transportation industries, Dr. Turk began teaching physical science at the Gainesville campus in 1994 and became a physics lab coordinator and instructor in 1997. In 1988, Dr. Turk became an instructor of engineering and began the Gainesville engineering program in that same academic year.
Dr. Turk served as the sole Gainesville engineering faculty until 2010 during which time the engineering program grew significantly. He also concurrently served for five years as the campus right-to-know and hazardous waste & materials coordinator. Dr. Turk became the Lewis F. Rogers Institute for Environmental and Spatial Analysis’s (IESA) interim Director in January of 2010 and then Director in July of 2013. Dr. Turk is one of the founding members of the Institute of Environmental Spatial Analysis where he has served continuously on its advisory board since the institute’s inception in 2001.
