How to Apply to the Cottrell MBA Program

Requirements

Baccalaureate from an accredited institution (as defined under Accredited Institutions in the Academic Information section of the ) with a minimum grade point average of 2.75.

Transcripts of applicants will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Applicants who are deficient in one or more foundation content areas must complete foundation courses before starting MBA courses. The MBA Program Coordinator may grant exceptions to this requirement based on the applicant’s work history. The Cottrell MBA foundation content requirements are Financial Accounting, Corporate Finance, Macroeconomics and Business Math or Statistics.

Required Supplemental Documents

Two letters of recommendation from professional references who are familiar with your work, e.g. current or past supervisors or managers. Family and friends of applicants are not permissible recommenders. If possible, at least one of the recommendations should be from a current direct supervisor.

o Professional resume that includes a detailed description of the applicant’s work experience, and shows a minimum of two years of professional work experience

A statement of purpose of up to 500 words discussing your short-term and long-term career goals, reason for seeking an MBA, and anything else you’d like for us to know

Submit one set of official transcripts from each institution attended for all course work, undergraduate and graduate level.

Transfer credit posted on records of other institutions is not accepted in lieu of transcripts from original institutions. Please request a transcript from each institution attended.

Transcripts that have been opened, scanned or forwarded by email are not official and will not be accepted.

Official paper transcripts are accepted if submitted from the issuing institution and mailed to University of North Georgia Admissions Imaging Center, P.O. Box 1358, Gainesville, GA 30503-1358. Student paper transcripts are accepted only when issued to the student in a sealed envelope and submitted to Graduate Admissions unopened.

Official electronic transcripts are accepted if submitted from the issuing institution to grads@ung.edu. Depending on the transcript service you are using, grads@ung.edu may not be an available option. You may then select any admissions or undergraduate admissions @ung.edu address. Electronic transcripts forwarded via email from the student are not accepted.

International transcripts must have a course-by-course credential evaluation by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. () or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (). Evaluations must be sent directly from the agency to the Admissions office. Refer to the evaluator website for a full list of or members. Official evaluations must include certification that the applicant's course work and degrees earned are equivalent to course work and degrees earned from an accredited institution (as defined under Accredited Institutions in the Academic Information section of the ) and include a cumulative grade point average. Evaluations should be submitted from the evaluation service to Graduate Admissions. Evaluations must include certification that the applicant has received a baccalaureate from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum grade point average of 2.75. Applicants who have received degrees outside of the United States may be required to submit proof of English proficiency. Applicants will be notified if a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score is required. If required, scores must be sent directly from the testing agency. Personal copies and photocopies are NOT accepted. TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two calendar years from the test date. Required minimum scores are, TOEFL internet based - 79, TOEFL computer based test - 213, TOEFL paper based test - 550, IELTS - 6.5.

Graduate Admissions will retrieve transcripts of coursework completed in-residence at ��ϲʿ��. You do not need to order official transcripts from ��ϲʿ��.

If you completed your undergraduate degree at ��ϲʿ�� and then attended another institution, request official transcripts only from schools attended after graduating from ��ϲʿ��.

Board of Regents’ policy requires all applicants accepted for admission or readmission to ��ϲʿ�� seeking in-state for tuition classification provide validation of residency and lawful presence in both the state of Georgia and the United States.

Transient
An individual currently enrolled at an accredited institution (as defined under Accredited Institutions in the Academic Information section of the ) as a graduate student in good standing may apply to ��ϲʿ�� as a transient student.

Transient students may only enroll in Cottrell MBA elective courses. Electives are usually offered summer semesters.

Permission to take courses does not indicate or imply subsequent admission into the program.

Students must receive pre-approval from the Cottrell MBA Director before enrolling in courses.

Requests will be considered on a space-available basis.

Admission is for one semester only.

Students who wish to return as a transient student for a subsequent semester must re-apply through Graduate Admissions.

Students may be required to submit an official transcript from the home institution in order to verify adequate prerequisite knowledge/skills.

All International

International applicants who must be issued an F-1 visa by ��ϲʿ�� to enter the United States to attend school may not apply for completely online programs. The MBA program is only offered online program and therefore does not permit F-1 visa student admission.

Appeal of Graduate Admission

A candidate whose application is denied has the right to appeal the decision. A written letter of appeal must include strong evidence to support the basis for your appeal. The appeal should consist of information beyond what was previously submitted in your admissions file and detail your ability to be successful in graduate studies.

MBA Program Curriculum

The Cottrell MBA provides functional knowledge in a variety of business fields while also addressing skills such as analytics, ethical decision-making, and professionalism. With a number of networking opportunities, relevant coursework and competitive pricing, the Cottrell MBA is one of the best values in the state.

ACCT 6300 - Accounting for Decision Making

A study of accounting issues confronted by managers and will include pricing and sales decisions, tax implications of business form and business decisions, and financial statement analysis.

MGMT 6600 - Leadership and Motivation

The course will focus on the traits, motives and characteristics of effective leaders. Various models and theories of leadership and motivation will be examined through class discussion and application to contemporary cases. Topics will include leadership in small groups and teams as well as strategic leadership at the organization level. Course content will include the nature of leadership in cross-cultural and diverse environments, as well as the role of ethics and systems of ethical decision making that leaders are faced with in contemporary business environments.

MGMT 6620 - Supply Chain and Operations Management

This course provides a foundational understanding of the planning and management of the activities related to managing operations with a supply chain perspective. This includes process design, sourcing, demand forecasting, sales and operations planning (S&OP), logistics, quality management, supply chain integration, and sustainability.

MKTG 6705 - Marketing Management

This is a masters level marketing course with applications that provides an in depth look at the role of marketing management through a strategic perspective. The course is a broad study of the many ways that this approach is used by businesses and nonprofit organizations to manage marketing activities. The overall emphasis is placed on understanding the rapid changes placed on marketing managers by such forces as the synergy between information systems and the Internet. The course reinforces the importance of ethics and social responsibility in the operation of the market system.

MGMT 6680 - Professionalism in Business

Designed to develop the professional skills of graduate students. Students will participate in a professional workshop, online modules and other learning activities to develop interpersonal and group communication skills as well as professional business competencies. Learning activities are designed to enhance professional soft skills and job readiness utilizing methods such as guest speakers, seminar attendance, service learning, company visits.

FINC 6400 - Financial Management

This course provides the requisite financial theory for all MBA students, which will allow them to assume leadership roles in the financial decision-making process within their organizations. The course includes the essential theories of markets, risk, return and valuation and how these theories are applied to financial management decisions.

A comprehensive review of information management as it relates to the information-age organization. The major focus is on information systems that guide decision making, support collaboration, and facilitate organizational effectiveness.

Spring Year 2 (7 Credit Hours)

BUSA 6900 - Strategic Management in a Global Environment

This is a capstone course integrating prior MBA knowledge specifically applied to the growing challenges of globalization. The context of business strategy is portrayed in an environment of intensifying competition, evolving political economy, cultural dynamics, and multinational commerce. The course responds to the need for both small and large businesses to consider globalization as a critical element of their strategic focus. Special course coverage provides the student with international perspectives on such topics as leadership, value chain integration, entrepreneurship, and ethics.

BUSA 6990 - Capstone Leadership Experience

This capstone experience integrates cross-functional knowledge from prior MBA courses to address realistic business challenges. MBA student teams will critically analyze environmental and competitive scenarios, develop appropriate business strategies, and propose operational improvements. Applied research and problem solving, teamwork, and oral presentation skills are a few of the learning outcomes associated with this course.

ECON 6205 - Economics & Decision Making

Quantitative economics draws on analysis for such concepts as cost, demand, profit, competition, pricing, entry strategy, and market protection strategy. It bridges the gap between the analytical problems and the day-to-day decisions that managers face. The aim of the course is to complement managers' intuition and personal style of analysis by providing decision-making techniques that promote a thorough, systematic examination of the problem at hand and its feasible alternative solutions. The course uses statistical analysis to enrich decision-making precision.
