Noemi Nolasco

Noemi Nolasco has gained extensive leadership experience at the University of North Georgia (正澳门六合彩开奖结果).

The Atlanta, Georgia, resident pursuing a degree in modern languages with a concentration in Spanish language and literature, serves as president of the Latin American Student Organization (LASO), is a resident assistant (RA) and has worked as an orientation leader. Each role has helped her grow in her approach to leading others.

As LASO president, she encourages others to celebrate their Hispanic heritage.

"I want to make it known to Latinx students on campus that they have this community here," Nolasco said. "We're here to represent and advocate for them."

Her orientation role took on extra significance in summer 2021 as she and her fellow leaders led new students and their families on personalized campus tours during the COVID-19 pandemic ahead of a more typical semester. She enjoyed interacting with people who had a variety of personalities and backgrounds, and it made her more comfortable in striking up conversations.

As an RA, Nolasco leads by being available, whether it's during an emergency or the every-day ups and downs of life as a college student.

"I want them to see me as their friend and someone they can come to if they need any help," Nolasco said. "A leader is someone people can count on."

Nolasco, who is scheduled to graduate in May 2023, knows firsthand that leaders stay busy, but that cannot come at the expense of relationships with their group members.

"It's meaningful when a leader reaches out to someone personally and asks how they're doing," she said.

One of Nolasco's favorite things is helping others see how they can chase big goals. Her leadership responsibilities have been a major part of her success, and she encourages others to seek out such experiences.

"Don't sell yourself short. You can accomplish more than you think you can," Nolasco said. "Your college experience is what you make of it. You never know what may come your way."
