Oconee Campus' Nighthawks SOAR program

Nighthawks SOAR, which stands for Student

Opportunities for Accelerated Readiness,

targets students who are typically

perhaps economically disadvantaged or

from a home in which English is not the

primary language who are going into the

sixth seventh or eighth grade in the

coming year. We know the research shows

that middle school students and all

students slide back about 40% in the

summer if they're not engaged in some

way.

This Nighthawks SOAR program is

benefiting our middle school students in

so many ways. This program is teaching

them how to write research papers, how to

create citations.

We've also embedded a college knowledge

portion and interwoven that really

throughout.
