Enhancing Vocabulary Acquisition Among Arabic EFL Kindergarten Learners

Arabic EFL speakers face challenges in effectively learning and retaining vocabulary, which can hinder their language development. This study explores the effectiveness of multisensory learning, using real objects, versus traditional methods in teaching concrete vocabulary to Arabic-speaking EFL kindergarten students. Expected findings indicate multisensory approach enhances vocabulary acquisition significantly. Research Methodology: The study involves 20 Arabic-speaking EFL Kindergarten learners from Islamic Educational Collage schools, divided into two groups. Group 1 utilizes multisensory learning with real objects, enhancing vocabulary retention through sensory exploration. Group 2 employs traditional methods, focusing on visual stimuli.

Brain breaks are short, energizing activities that provide students with mental rest and physical movement. These breaks can range from quick stretches to fun language games allowing students to recharge and refocus their attention leading to increased engagement and productivity in learning English. Incorporating brain breaks into classrooms will ensure a high-quality instruction that caters to the diverse needs of English language learners including Arabic speakers. This approach not only enhances language acquisition, but also fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment where students thrive.

Presenter: Zaid Alsarayreh is an English teacher at Soul Secondary School for Boys. Zaid Alsarayreh has been teaching English for six years. Zaid Alsarayreh holds a bachelor's degree in English Language and literature. Zaid Alsarayreh graduated from Mu'tah University in 2016. Zaid Alsarayreh’s areas of interest include Neurolinguistics, psycholinguistics and language teaching methods.

Shaping the Way We Teach English: Potential Effects of a Professional Development Program on Jordanian EFL Teachers’ Instructional Practices

The study examines the effect of Shaping the Way We Teach English, a teacher professional development program, on Jordanian EFL teachers’ instructional practices. The researcher has noticed that teachers lack training in pedagogy and classroom practices, as few tailored training opportunities are available to them. Observations of the participants (Jordanian EFL teachers in North Ghour Directorate), along the seven domains of the program were conducted before and after the treatment. The findings revealed that there were statistically significant differences (at α=0.05) in the participants' instructional practices before and after the treatment, in favor of the latter.

She won Queen Rania Award for distinguished teacher. She also has good computer skills. She uses online technological resources and implements new innovative methods inside the classroom.

The Effect of Emotional Intelligence and Self-efficacy on Foreign Language Anxiety: A case of EFL University Students in Jordan

The study examined Jordanian EFL university students' foreign language anxiety, emotional intelligence, and self-efficacy. It also checked if the three variables matched students' gender, academic year, and achievement. Lastly, the study examined whether emotional intelligence and self-efficacy predict EFL students' foreign language anxiety. It was descriptive and analytical. EFL students from 187 Jordanian universities provided data. Participants completed three questionnaires Jordanian university EFL students had slightly higher language anxiety and emotional intelligence. Importantly, emotional intelligence and self-efficacy reduced language learning anxiety. Although self-efficacy increased emotional intelligence. Finally, Jordanian EFL students' anxiety is inversely related to emotional intelligence and self-efficacy.

Presenter: In 2011, Arwa Abuqudiri worked outside English, in human organizations in 2020. Arwa Abuqudiri received a Queen Rania's Academy diploma grant for university English language teachers in 2023 after finishing a master's. This grant got Arwa Abuqudiri a job teaching grades 4–10 in government schools and substantial support.

Effective Strategies in Teaching English as a Second Language

Teaching English as a second language requires many different approaches that address the needs and backgrounds of learners. Because of that, it is of great importance to apply effective strategies that aim at enhancing ESL teaching methodologies and learning outcomes. In my presentation, I will show some student-centered collaborative strategies used in teaching English skills; writing, reading, and grammar. I will introduce three to four strategies:

3. Connect-Extend-Challenge
4. Wh-questions bubbles.

Maram Qudah worked in many educational fields, universities, colleges, NGOs, and large private schools in Amman. Supporting the Social and Emotional Well-being of Native Arabic Speakers Learning English

This presentation will discuss the theoretical foundations of social and emotional learning (SEL) and mindfulness when applied to teaching English to native Arabic speakers. Through brief lectures, discussions, and activities, participants will better understand practical solutions to support language learning using techniques from both SEL and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR). In order for educators and administrators to expand their pedagogical toolkit, an emphasis will be made on ways to incorporate these techniques into any English language course to native Arabic speakers by addressing and identifying the psycho-social needs of college-level students and their mentors.

Presenter: Dr. Brian O’Hare and Bushra Abyad. Dr. Brian O’Hare has taught English since 2001 in Taiwan, Spain, China, Jordan and the United States. He holds a Ph.D. in anthropology (Columbia University) and he is a licensed social worker in the state of Hawaiʻi. He currently teaches at Petra College for Tourism and Archaeology in Wadi Musa.

Building Global Citizens: Promoting Cross-Cultural and Global Knowledge in the English Language Classroom

This presentation aims to present and explore strategies for promoting cross-cultural understanding along with global knowledge and culture to the students. By introducing the concepts of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion to the learners, also by implementing service-learning projects. This way the students can understand that the world is like a small village. This session will provide the audience with reasons to focus on creating global citizens and to introduce global culture and make it part of everyday classes.

More Stimulating Learning Environment by Service-Learning Project

This presentation explains service-learning projects "classroom Decorations," "Designing playground games" to encourage our students to practice English language. SLP plays a vital part in teaching English Language for Second language learners. Students became more confident to practice the language. My presentation will start with Introducing what is service-learning project and its importance to the audience. Then start showing the slides and the pictures taken during the work, explaining the steps and how the students engage and use English. Ashort video for the students while collaborating. Strengthening Society-School Collaboration for Optimal Partnership Opportunities

This presentation delves into the significance of school-community collaboration in promoting educational equity and fostering social cohesion. It mainly provides an overview of an educational leadership project aimed at enhancing collaboration between school and society for mutual benefit. The project sought to improve the bond between the school and the community to create optimal collaboration opportunities. English Corners as an Innovative Strategy Beyond Classrooms

Jordanian teachers are expected to give the curriculum and it is their only way to make students acquire the language. As a result, this presentation highlights how using service-learning projects will give the students another path for acquiring the language. The focus will be on the English corners either for reading or a cultural corner, and its effect on enhancing students’ motivation toward reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It also gives the students the space to be self-learners; students can also develop their vocabulary and their academic ability. It will also spread multicultural awareness and understanding.

Establishing a Mini Professional Development Corner

In this presentation, I will share my experience in establishing a Mini Professional Development Corner for five English teachers in my school. This initiative focuses on providing tailored learning opportunities, including online courses and face-to-face workshops, to enhance teaching practices and promote continuous education. Through the Mini Professional Development Corner, teachers have access to targeted support and resources to improve their teaching quality. The establishment of the Mini Professional Development Corner positively impacts students' learning experiences. This presentation will provide insights into practical strategies for fostering a culture of continuous learning among English teachers. Practice to Resolve Issues Faced by Learners

This study examines Jordanian EFL learners' speech acts, comparing them with native speakers' strategies. The research involved 130 learners and native speakers, generating 2600 responses. Findings revealed similarities and differences in their approaches. Learners tended towards specific strategies, with links to grammatical competence, prefabrication, and more. The study highlighted their lack of linguistic knowledge. It suggests EFL teachers integrate interlanguage pragmatics, addressing pragma-linguistic and socio-pragmatic aspects. The study calls for increased focus, time, and practice to aid learners. It also recommends pedagogical material with ample and organized pragmatic content.

Presenter: Dr. Dina Hammouri, a Dr. of Linguistics at the Department of English, the University of Jordan. She is also a specialized trainer. Dr. Hammouri has over nineteen years of experience in teaching at education institutions, eight of which are at UJ and HTU. She also has extensive experience in school teaching.

The Strategies Used in Writing Argumentative Essays from Jordanian Students’ and Lecturers’ Perspectives

This paper aimed to identify the most engaging strategies used in teaching writing argumentative essays for university students. Three focus group discussions were conducted with 30 English-language lecturers and professors in Amman, Jordan. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted with English language professors and students. The findings indicated that there were similarities and differences between the two groups' preferences for prewriting and post-writing strategies. Yet, lecturers favored brainstorming and outlining as a prewriting strategy and teacher feedback as a post writing strategy, while students preferred the read-write model as a prewriting strategy and peer review as a post writing strategy.

Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) Platform the New Education System in High School Level

The new education system BTEC is an alternative to vocational education. This new system focuses more precisely on practical skills than academical knowledge. Teachers lack space for communication and interaction. My project is about a platform that provides space for teachers to share, interact communicate and present students’ practical skills and their service learning projects to all parties involved, my presentation focus on a platform's concept, rationales and features, also how it activates social emotional learning. As an English teacher, this platform provides teachers and students trainings on the use of technology in education, and professional development courses.

Presenter: Basem Al Etiwi has been teaching for nine years. Basem Al Etiwi taught English in Abu Bana high school for boys. Basem Al Etiwi received an undergraduate degree from Al Tafila Technical University and master's degree from Mut’ah University. CLI-Fi Makes Writing Lessons Fun!

The presentation focuses on how to involve other content subjects such as Science, IT, and social studies with English. Learners will be introduced to a new writing genre; cli-fi (climate fiction) in which they will brainstorm ideas about climate change and, write their own stories about climate change by the help of other content teachers to help them to extract and retrieve the information they need. I will use the bottom-up model to figure out how this model might help students improve their reading comprehension skills.

With a degree from the University of Jordan, TEPD from Queen Rania teaches academy and PCELT certification, Amira Alwadhan currently teaches in secondary school in a rural village.

The Integration of Interactive Digital Tools in EFL Classrooms

Digital tools enable EFL teachers to create interactive activities. As part of the Higher Diploma Program for Teacher Education at The University of Jordan, educators and students utilize digital tools to incorporate EFL skills in classrooms. Blooket, Wordwall, Sway, and Mentimeter are used in this program. Blooket is a platform that allows students to review the content, while Wordwall creates EFL games for learners. Sway allows users to share presentations. Mentimeter is a tool that promotes active learning. In our workshop, we will explore these digital tools, and how they can help both students and teachers in their classrooms.

Presenters: Both Dr. Toham Amareen and Dr. Zeina Abdallat are teacher educators at the University of Jordan. Toham: English language teacher “lecturer” in the languages center, University of Jordan, with ten-years' experience teaching. Zeina: winner of Queen Rania Award for Distinguished Teacher in 2013, with twenty-years' experience teaching.

The Incorporation of Assistive Technology for Visually Impaired Students in EFL Classrooms

Assistive technology is a game-changing tool that has revolutionized the lives of individuals with disabilities, especially the visually impaired. Educators can play a vital role in implementing assistive technology tools like Voice Over, Talk Back, Be My Eyes, Microsoft Seeing AI, Cache Reader, and Voice Vista to support their students effectively. Such tools enable EFL visually impaired students to communicate in English, providing them with equal opportunities to practice the four skills of English language. In our workshop, I will delve deeper into these assistive technology tools and highlight their importance in creating a more inclusive and equitable education system.

The Role of Gamification Strategy in Enhancing Vocabulary Acquisition Among Ninth Graders in the Public Schools

Most EFL students in the public schools are struggling to learn new vocabulary due to the traditional teaching method. They get used to memorize and translate the new words only in Arabic without concentrating on their English meanings or pronounce them properly. Moreover, most of them feel bored during these classes, and these reasons encourage me to look for a modern strategy which is gamification such as offering visual or online games to help students acquire new vocabulary items within enthusiastic atmosphere and create immersive learning experiences that inspire students to reach their full potential in levels.

Peer Teaching: “Info Cascade: Lighting the Path for Young Minds” Project

Peer teaching is an interactive and collaborative way of learning where students take the initiative to teach curriculum concepts to one another. Through this active learning method, students deepen their understanding of curricular topics, nurture communication and leadership skills, and build confidence and self-efficacy. This session will focus on illustrating the benefits of incorporating peer teaching methods in classrooms. As an example of implementing this method, a leadership project will be presented during this interactive session. Presenters will show photos of students while doing the project and slides to clarify this learning method. Attendees will gain insights about peer teaching.

Innovative Practices in ESL Education: Integrating Extracurricular Activities with AI Tools

Combining extracurricular activities with AI tools enhances ESL teaching methods. Language clubs, exchange programs, and drama workshops offer diverse skill development contexts. At Al-Balqa Applied University, active student participation is encouraged, exemplified by the Short Story Club and Conversation Program with US native speakers. Guest speakers and drama workshops enrich the experience, while ChatGPT aids in dynamic writing, vocabulary enrichment, and reading comprehension. Emphasizing proper tool utilization is crucial. Integrating ChatGPT into such activities offers a transformative ESL learning experience, complementing conventional methods. This approach provides personalized learning and immersive language practice, greatly enriching the ESL learning journey.

Presenter: Dr. Khetam Shraideh is an Assistant Professor of Translation at Al-Balqa Applied University, Jordan. She holds a Ph.D. from SUNY Binghamton, USA. Her research interests span AI tools, translation theory, and English teaching pedagogy. She actively engages in international conferences and has authored prolific research papers across these domains.

Using Educational Games to Teach English

In this proposal, I will be talking about using educational games in the classroom (teaching through games). I’ve chosen this topic to talk about because it is a very successful strategy that contributes to improving students’ learning and enhancing the learning environment. I will talk about some educational games such as Word wall, Word Cloud, Kahoot, Spinwheel (or Random Wheel), Prodigy (which can be played for learning English or math), Matching Pairs, Spelling Bee, or Odd one out. I will present a PowerPoint presentation to show the pictures and/or the explanation of these games.

Speak Up! Creating a Classroom Culture that Encourages Risk-Taking

What actions can we as instructors take to cultivate a classroom atmosphere where, instead of being embarrassed or shy about speaking, students are encouraged and rewarded for being brave? The presenters conducted a survey of nearly 200 first-year university students studying English to discover what they wish teachers would do to help give them the confidence to take risks when speaking in English. Participants will learn about six specific actions they, and teachers at all levels, can take to encourage students to have the confidence to speak up in class, promoting both scholastic and personal growth.

The Station Rotation Model: Prioritize Differentiation, Student Agency and 4Cs of 21st-Century Learning

By fostering a culture of inquiry, autonomy, and collaboration, learner-centered classrooms empower EFL students to become lifelong learners who are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.

SRM is blended learning approach where students cycle among several classroom stations, at least one of which is a technology-based station, it leans into the idea that one size does not fit all. In our proposal presentation, we'll discuss how stations are set up, how technology can be integrated into station rotation, strategies for managing station rotation, and examples of station rotation from our own experience.

Flipgrid Fiesta: Spicing Up Learning with Interactive Video!

The Flipgrid application plays a prominent role in breaking the barrier of shyness among students and stimulating active learning. With the ability to record and interact with videos, Flipgrid encourages students to express their ideas confidently and without stress. This effective interaction between students and teachers allows an atmosphere of communication and collaboration to be built, which enhances social interaction and personal learning. Thus, Flipgrid is a hidden curriculum that enhances self-confidence and encourages active participation in the learning process.

Presenter: Lamis Omoush is an EFL supervisor and teacher trainer at the Ministry of Education-Jordan. A former access teacher, a trained coach at Texas. She has an MA in English Literature from Yarmouk University and MEPLI fellowship from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She fosters teachers’ thinking about designing activities.

Task-Based Assessment: Empowering Arabic Speakers in English Language Acquisition

Language assessments are often conducted using multiple-choice questions. While these assessments are convenient to administer and provide a measure of learners' knowledge of language rules, they tell us little about learners' communicative abilities. This presentation introduces task-based assessment (TBA) as a way to develop students’ communicative abilities and strengthen the link between communicative language teaching and assessment (Nunan 2004). Attendees will gain insight into the theoretical and practical aspects of TBA and leave with tools they can implement in their teaching contexts to prepare Arabic speakers of English for the real-world challenges they will encounter.

Presenter: William Lewis is an English Language Fellow at German Jordanian University in Madaba, Jordan. His research interests include curriculum development, educational technology, corpus linguistics, and language assessment.

Does Reading Stories Have a Positive or Negative Influence?

This presentation will focus on a service-learning project which I apply specifically with tenth graders at a public school. The project aims to enhance the students’ English skills by reading stories in a competitive way. They are supposed to do a lot of tasks and activities during the whole process and eventually they will end their work by designing a bulletin board for the assigned read stories and act out one of these stories. The presenter will elaborate on the types of tasks and activities assigned to the students, method of assessment, and obstacles faced the project.

Make Thinking Visible

How can we make something invisible, visible? In this presentation, we will explain and show how introducing and organizing thinking routines, exploring, synthesizing, and digging deeper into ideas, can bring the power of visible thinking to life. We are going to discuss some of the strategies that teachers can use in their classrooms to help them teach how to think and how to implement thinking processes in their daily life. With this strategy, students will learn a culture of innovation in their lives, especially in learning language and authentic, creative, and critical thinking is valued.

Presenters: May has been an English language teacher for 15 years. Her experience spans both public and private schools. Her MA is from University of Jordan. She received a scholarship from Harvard (MEPLI). Her case study was published in cooperation Queen Rania Teacher Academy and Harvard University. For over a decade, Meagan Abrahamsson has been working on international education development projects around the world. An English Language Fellow with the U.S. DoS helping build capacity at ALCs throughout Jordan. Her current research focus is monitoring and evaluation of language programs to ensure efficiency and sustainability.

Personalization in the EFL Classrooms: Create Interest by Talking About Your Students

Personalization in teaching is a technique used by instructors to promote ownership, which should, in turn, lead to effective learning. It is defined as linking taught material and concepts to the lives and preferences of learners to increase learning motivation. The presentation is based on theoretical research and in-class observations, and it aims at raising awareness of personalization in education, its significance, and how it can be implemented in EFL classrooms using a variety of activities. My teaching methodology stems from the notion that we learn for life, and thus our teaching should evolve around preparing learners for life.

Zaid Alkhatib possesses a BA in English language and literature from Yarmouk University, Jordan, and an MA in English Language pedagogy from ELTE university, Hungary. Gap Activities: Get Your Students Talking!

Gap activities give each student in pairs or small group different information. Students must talk with each other to get all the information needed in order to complete a task. These are engaging activities that get students using the language for real communication. Students also get to practice skills such as repeating, clarifying, and rephrasing. Your classroom will be filled with English as all students are involved. In this session, come try out different activities that you can use with students of all ages and levels.

Presenter: Jennifer Green, a Fulbright Scholar at Al-Balqa Applied University, focuses on professional development and curriculum development for language teaching. Her US institution is Western Washington University. She prepares educators to teach K-12 multilingual learners. Her primary research is on helping teachers and students access and use academic language.

Empowering Language Learners: Transformative Service-Learning Projects

Service-learning projects play a pivotal role in modern education, serving as dynamic platforms to enhance learning outcomes while addressing real-world challenges. As educators, we resonate with John Dewey's assertion that "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself." Grounded in this philosophy, we present two transformative initiatives aimed at advancing English language proficiency. The first project harnesses collaborative learning and technology integration through a student-led blog, fostering linguistic agility and cultural empathy. In the second endeavor, a tailored literacy program not only bolsters language skills but also nurtures.

With a combined 6 years of teaching experience in public schools, we are passionate about fostering language proficiency and cultural understanding. A Suggested Proposal for Using AI in Writing in EFL Classrooms

Technology is changing education. Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers exciting possibilities for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing classes. It can provide personalized feedback, practice exercises, and automated grading. However, challenges exist. Overreliance on (AI) can hinder independent learning, and a focus on mechanics might overshadow language acquisition. This proposal explores using (AI) in (EFL) writing, discussing both advantages and disadvantages. Examples of popular (AI) applications used by (EFL) learners will also be included.

Sketching Success: The Art of Incorporating Drawing in English Instruction

This presentation proposes a novel approach to teaching English by integrating drawing into the learning process. Conventional English teaching methods frequently do not captivate diverse learners, especially those who are visually or kinesthetically inclined, prompting the need for more dynamic strategies. My research employed a mixed-methods approach, merging qualitative observations of classroom dynamics with quantitative analysis of student performance metrics. The results indicated that the inclusion of drawing in English teaching significantly improved student engagement and understanding. This work develops an innovative educational framework that marries drawing with English instruction, presenting a fresh perspective on language teaching.

Presenter: Hadil Albishtawi has been a secondary English teacher for almost 15 years in an unequipped school with a rigid curriculum. Despite these challenges, Hadil Albishtawi adapted to improvise with teaching materials and creating engaging lessons. Currently, Hadil Albishtawi is a Ph.D. student at UNISZA, Malaysia, focusing on the communication process and self-distancing tendencies.

Teaching English in Large Classrooms

This presentation assists teachers in addressing a significant challenge existing in many Jordanian public schools: crowded classrooms. As classrooms continue to grow, it becomes harder to keep them student-centered environments. The objective of this presentation is to identify various strategies related to increasing the students’ talking time in class and managing large classes effectively. It accomplishes that by immersing the audience in dialogical, interactive activities such as "Find Someone Who" and the Jigsaw activity. By the end, attendees will be able to implement actionable practices like modelling, scaffolding and utilizing lexical chunks.

Sustainable Development Goals in Writing

To build a contributing citizen and authenticating English reading and writing, learning and integrating the sustainable development goals in these contexts helps students build a vocabulary band, and establish an efficient base for ideas that involve all the modern issues are students need to know about. The Value or Non-Value of Implementing Marzano’s Six Steps to Vocabulary Instruction to EFL Achievers at High School Stage in Jordan

This study intends to examine the add-value of Marzano’s six steps to vocabulary instruction to EFL low achiever readers at the high school stage in Jordan using Action Pack materials. It included 16 female students from Aqaba Secondary School. The researcher selected the respondents, ages fourteen to fifteen years. The study lasted for four weeks. Pre-test and Post-test were conducted for the respondents throughout the study period. The researcher implemented the Action Pack reading in the first two weeks and Marzano’s Six Steps then. The findings of the study showed that 46% of respondents performed better when implementing Marzano’s Six Steps.

Reader's Theatre: To Be or Not to Be!

Teaching English as a second language has always been quite a challenge due to a lot of reasons such as linguistics differences and cultural contexts. In this research proposal, I am going to investigate the effectiveness of reader’s theatre strategy in teaching English language for FL. The main objective of this research is to find out how applicable is this strategy and What difficulties teachers face when trying to apply it. The knowledge base teachers have about it and the impact it has on language acquisition among EFL.

The Unconscious Mind, its power and how we can use it well

My little presentation is going to demonstrate the term "The Unconscious Mind", in addition to its power, which I had the inspiration of being capable of dividing it into two directions. The first direction will be centered around the positive direction, the benefits in other words. Meanwhile, the second direction will demonstrate its tricks, especially for foreign students like us in Jordan. My presentation includes some proofs and activities for our powerful minds. And at the end, I hope I'll be able to give solutions that can work effectively in teaching English in Arabic classrooms.

Using Kahoot Application Enhancing Writing Skill for Secondary School Students

We propose integrating Kahoot! into our curriculum to enhance writing skills. Approach: Through Kahoot! we will create quizzes and interactive activities covering creative writing prompts, punctuation, and essay writing techniques. Implementation:

The Role of Social Media on Improving Students Speaking Skills

English language is considered the most used language on the social media. When children use social media, they engage directly and indirectly with the English language. This increases their practice of the language, as it becomes part of their daily activities. learning the language will not be limited only to schools. Reading general publications, quotes, writing a post in a specific occasion, a message to a friend, watching movies or advertisements, listening to a song or speeches, celebrities and influencers. (As most of them use English to publish their content.) All of this helps in acquiring speaking skills.

What is the Impact of Visual Aids on Improving Reading and Comprehension Skills of Sixth Graders in Public Schools?

Reading is of great importance in our lives. We believe that visual aids is the most important means of receiving data for both young and old. It is not limited to a certain age. We also need to work hard to improve and develop our students' reading skills, as this has a significant impact on their cognitive development. These strategies are important in developing reading. The visual aids strategy is to store text information in the brain by identifying the main idea in the text and knowing the importance of the text.

What is the Impact of Prediction and Skimming on Developing Reading Comprehension Skills?

This inquiry aimed to determine the influence of predictions and tests on the development of reading comprehension skills and the impact of reading strategies on the development of reading comprehension skills in middle school students. The study used school supplies and conducted reading comprehension tests before and after reading. Based on the results, teachers are recommended to train the students intensively in dealing with reading strategies.

The Effects of Word Wall Strategy on Sight Word Acquisition and Reading Fluency of ESL Young Learners

Reading fluency is the ability to read orally with speed and efficiency (Pikulski,2005). Young learners can achieve fluency as they recognize sight words with speed and build upon them to aid in comprehension. One way to help students achieve fluency is through the use of word wall strategy (Callella,2001). Word walls are bulletin boards that contain a collection of high-frequency or theme-related words. In my proposed presentation, I will discuss the benefits of using word walls. I will share suggestions for creating them, different activities, my own experience with my learners where I found that word wall activities can strengthen reading fluency.

Delivering an Online Professional Development Program for Jordanian English Educators: Lessons Learned

Research on teacher quality shows that weaknesses in teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) and classroom practice undermine effective student learning and achievement (Phetla & Newman, 2020; Pontefract and Hardman 2005). This research evaluates the effectiveness of an online professional development program conducted for three years with Jordanian English teachers. From gathered qualitative and quantitative data, findings from this research will share effective strategies to develop English teachers' PCK through communities of practice (Farnsworth, Kleanthous, & Wenger-Trayner, 2016; Hyder, Adcock, & Brown, 2020) and intercultural competence (Hoff, 2020; Sims et al., 2022).
