Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û

The University of North Georgia’s Weeks of Welcome (WOW) returns from Aug. 9-23 on all five campuses, offering incoming students a chance to connect and interact with their peers as they transition to college.  

WOW events provide opportunities for students to meet new people, form friendships and build a support network. Students learn campus traditions, values and expectations, fostering a sense of belonging. They also learn about academic support services and other resources available to them.  

"Weeks of Welcome can help students transition from high school to college life by fostering independence and self-reliance," David G. Michener, director of Student Involvement, said. "The first six to eight weeks of an incoming student's year are pivotal in shaping their overall college experience. Helping students define their goals and build their personal marketing brand early on is essential for success. Moreover, strong student engagement during Weeks of Welcome is essential for a positive and productive college journey."  

Weeks of welcome will take place on the days on each campus:  

• Blue Ridge: Aug. 12-23  

• Cumming: Aug. 12-22  

• Dahlonega: Aug. 9-23  

• Gainesville: Aug. 9-23  

• Oconee: Aug. 12-23  

While each campus will have varying events, students on all five campuses can expect to participate in Nighthawk Kick-Off, an event that launches WOW and features food, games and giveaways.  

As Nighthawks Entertainment's director of random acts, Ingrid Andrade is looking forward to experiencing this event and others like Newcomer Night at the Drive-In during WOW. Nighthawks Entertainment will be showing ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’. This is the first time the sophomore will attend any events as a member of an organization.  

"WOW means being a part of the Nighthawk community," the Gainesville, Georgia, native said. "It means getting involved and informed. There are so many fun social events to meet new friends, as well as informational events that can provide students with resources."  

Elias Quintero, a triple major from Oakwood, Georgia, serves as president of Nighthawks Entertainment and secretary of the Latino Student Association. Quintero is pursuing degrees in biology, health informatics and administration and general studies.  

Quintero has been a part of WOW three times and shared he's excited to see everyone back on campus  

"This time makes students feel welcome and gives them a positive outlook on the upcoming year and gives everyone a preview as to what the Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û community has to offer," Quintero said. "It enriches the university experience along with our personal experience of being a student at Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û. This is a great way to step into the new academic year. I’m looking forward to seeing my team and I come together and extend our organization's doors out to new students."
