Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û a national leader in producing Fulbrights

The University of North Georgia (Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û) topped a national list of four-year institutions for sending the most students abroad through the for 2021-22. The list, released by the U.S. Department of State on Feb. 28, showed that Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û tied for first among institutions in its category. Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û and Emory University are the only universities in Georgia on this year's list.
Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û has earned the designation as a national for five consecutive years. Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û received the distinction based on seven alumni being selected as Fulbright finalists for the 2021-22 academic year, the most since 2017-18. Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û has produced 22 Fulbright finalists in a four-year span.
"This honor for Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û shows our students' determination to seek out educational experiences abroad that will shape them into outstanding leaders for a diverse and global society," Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û President Bonita Jacobs said. "Support and mentoring from our faculty and the Nationally Competitive Scholarships Office help make these dreams a reality."
The Fulbright is a prestigious, highly competitive fellowship that enables recent graduates and graduate students to pursue research, earn a graduate degree or teach English overseas. It is designed to increase mutual understanding between U.S. citizens and residents of more than 160 foreign countries, according to the Fulbright website.

Dr. Anastasia Lin, assistant vice president of Academic Affairs and head of the Nationally Competitive Scholarships Office, said the recognition shows Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û's staying power.
"Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û's continued presence on the top-producing list demonstrates our sustained commitment to supporting students as they grow into global leaders, well-suited to engage in Fulbright's mission of creating mutual understanding between nations," Lin said.
Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û is also well-positioned for the year ahead with 13 Fulbright semifinalists for the 2022-23 cycle, as eight applied to be English teaching assistants, four for master's degree programs, and one for a research award. They will learn by April whether they are selected for the Fulbright program.

Five earn research opportunities in Canada
Five Õý°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û students have earned selection for the Fulbright Canada Mitacs Globalink program for summer 2024. The program provides sophomores and juniors a chance to conduct 10-12 weeks of fully-funded research in Canadian universities.
