Effective Fall Semester 2020

At ��ϲʿ��, MATH 1111: College Algebra, is the prerequisite for higher-level math, such as MATH 1113: Precalculus. The University System of Georgia has set minimum criteria for students to be eligible to enroll in MATH 1111. Certain majors require higher levels of math in the Core or as pre-requisites for future courses. ��ϲʿ�� prerequisite information for specific Core Impacts math courses is below.

MATH 1001: Quantitative Skills and Reasoning

To be eligible to take MATH 1001 as a stand-alone course, you must meet one of the following criteria: ACT math of 17 or higher; old SAT math of 440 or higher; new SAT math section score of 480 or higher; or Math Placement Index (MPI) of 1175 or higher; or earned credit for MATH 1001 with a grade of D or higher.

MATH 1101: Mathematical Models

To be eligible to take MATH 1101 as a stand-alone course, you must meet one of the following criteria: ACT math of 17 or higher; old SAT math of 440 or higher; new SAT math section score of 480 or higher; or Math Placement Index (MPI) of 1175 or higher; or earned credit for MATH 1101 with a grade of D or higher.

MATH 1111: College Algebra

To be eligible to take MATH 1111 as a stand-alone course, you must meet one of the following criteria: ACT math of 20 or higher; old SAT math of 470 or higher; new SAT math section score of 510 or higher; or Math Placement Index (MPI) of 1300 or higher; earned credit for MATH 1001/MATH 1101 with a grade of C or higher; or earned credit for MATH 1111 with a grade of D or higher.

MATH 1113: Pre-Calculus

To be eligible to take MATH 1113, you must meet one of the following criteria: ACT math of 23 or higher; old SAT math of 550 or higher; new SAT math section score of 570 or higher; earned credit in MATH 1111 with a grade of C or higher; or approval of department head.

MATH 1450: Calculus I

To be eligible to take MATH 1450, you must meet one of the following criteria: ACT math of 26 or higher; old SAT math of 640 or higher; new SAT math section score of 660 or higher; or earned credit in MATH 1113 with a grade of C or higher.

The scores we have on file for you are located on your Tranguid, either in the Standardized Test Scores section or, in the case of MPI, the Learning Support section beneath the title MATH.

If you need MATH 1111 for your degree program, and you do not meet the eligibility requirements for MATH 1111, but you do meet the requirements for MATH 1001 or MATH 1101, you have three options:

You may take MATH 1111 along with a three credit co-requisite Support class (MATH 1111 plus MATH 0999 – Support for College Algebra). This co-requisite math is offered in distinct pairs, and both math classes are worth three credit hours towards enrollment hours. This option allows you to be in the appropriate math for your major your first semester.
You may take MATH 1001: Quantitative Skills or MATH 1101: Mathematical Models and, upon earning a grade of C or higher, take MATH 1111 the following semester. Note: MATH 1001 and MATH 1101 do not provide much MATH 1111 preparation and are, instead, designed for majors that do not require MATH 1111.
You may take the Math Eligibility Exam for College Algebra Math 1111. There is a charge to take this exam. The exam must be completed prior to the start of the semester for which you applied. If you choose this option and score at least 266 (on a 200 – 300 point scale) on this exam (The Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS) test) we will adjust your advanced schedule accordingly. You may take this exam even if you do not meet the requirements to take Math 1001 or Math 1101. Note: This exam is different from the Math Eligibility Exam for Pre-Calculus and Calculus I.
