Overview

Dr. Justice has focused on the development of the sectional conflict that led to the American Civil War and how it related to constitutional ideas and institutions that provided the foundations for southern secession in 1860 and 1861. He is currently working on a series of articles on these topics and is in the process of preparing his dissertation for publication.

American History surveys, American South, Antebellum South, American Civil War, Georgia History, and World History survey.

State constitutional development, ideological development of constitutionalism, popular sovereignty, theories of identity, and nationalism.
