How did you hear about your internship?
My academic adviser, Dr. Miner, informed me of the agency. I looked into it and was really interested in what they do.
What has been the most valuable (or favorite) part of the experience?
I have definitely developed a new skill. Despite not being an education major, I have significantly expounded on my teaching ability. I started off a little rough in the beginning but noticed a quick transition into something better as I became fully immersed in a job that deals with refugees from all over the world who depend entirely on my ability to teach them the English language.
How will this help you in the future?
With my career plans being set on commissioning into the army, I will be in charge of people who rely on me to lead them. More than that, they will look to me for knowledge. If I am insufficient at teaching them, what does that say about me as their leader? Even after the army, teaching is something we always do no matter what job we have whether we know it or not. It is also crucial to be able to teach people from all different backgrounds.
