What kinds of things did you do while in college to prepare you for your professional life after college, or to make yourself more marketable?
During my college career at The University of North Georgia, I held 3 major positions that prepared me for life after college and made me more marketable. I worked as a market researcher in Stuttgart, Germany for Steinbach und Partner, the marketing director for The Saint newspaper, and a customer service representative for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. All three positions were internships, and the faculty (especially Dr. Ruben Boling) helped me land these positions.
How did you hear about (or find) your current position?
Dr. Ruben Boling had introduced me to an executive with State Farm. After meeting with Mr. Steve Simmons many times, I had an opportunity to pursue a career with State Farm. I currently work as an account manager for Ryan Hendrix State Farm Agency and aspire to own my own agency within two years.
What advice would you like to give to current students to help prepare them for careers and/or the job search after college?
The most important advice I would give to the student body this: utilize the tools that The University of North Georgia offers! There are so many tools, departments, and caring faculty that will help facilitate your success. Talk to your professors and go see Ms. Dora Ditchfield in the Career Services. Most importantly, get as much real-world experience as you can through internships. Dr. Ruben Boling is a great reference that will help lead you into successful and beneficial experiences!
